⏳ My Mission — timeline & countdowns

Lengths vary by assignment and language; your Missionary Portal (“MTC Experience”) has your real dates. Official: “Most missionaries have one or two weeks of at-home MTC training before coming on-site. A few missionaries will have their full MTC experience on-site.” — Provo MTC At-Home FAQ (updated Mar 18, 2026). Elders serve 24 months, Sisters 18 — General Handbook 24; Newsroom, Nov 2025.

Your call was signed by a prophet

Mission calls are signed by the President of the Church, whom Latter-day Saints sustain as a prophet, seer, and revelator. Today that is President Dallin H. Oaks.

The call in your hands came from a prophet

Every missionary call is extended by the President of the Church. As Elder David A. Bednar taught, the letter “is signed by the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” and it begins, “You are hereby called to serve…” (“Called to the Work,” April 2017). Take a quiet moment with that.

His words on missionary service

“The same is true of the army of young missionaries, who put their lives at home on hold and bid good-bye to family and friends and set forth (usually at their own expense) to serve wherever they are assigned by the Lord, speaking through His servants.”
— President Dallin H. Oaks, “I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go”, general conference, Oct. 2002
“The full measure of this conversion to men and women of God happens best through our labors in His vineyard.”
— President Dallin H. Oaks, “I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go”, general conference, Oct. 2002
“Those who remain at home—parents and other family members—also sacrifice by forgoing the companionship and service of the missionaries they send forth.”
— President Dallin H. Oaks, “Sacrifice”, general conference, Apr. 2012
“Sharing the gospel is not a burden but a joy.”
— President Dallin H. Oaks, “Sharing the Restored Gospel”, general conference, Oct. 2016
“We will come to understand that success in sharing the gospel is inviting people with love and genuine intent to help them, no matter what their response.”
— President Dallin H. Oaks, “Sharing the Restored Gospel”, general conference, Oct. 2016

Quotes are copied word for word from the linked talks on ChurchofJesusChrist.org (checked October 9, 2026). All five were given before he became President of the Church.
